HomeMy WebLinkAboutCOM 0008.003 2006-2008 Youth Crime Watch -Kealakehe
My name is Kealailani Salinas-Chin and I am a
freshmen at Kealakehe High School.
I have been a member of youth crime watch for many years.
The reason why I am here today is to provide testimony in
support of funds that will help us continue our programs in
our community. We learn how to prevent substance abuse. It
means a lot to me because a member of my family was in
and out of jail because of substance abuse. My mom was
the only supporter of our family, but now we are together as
a family, and to help this family member recover. Through
this program I hayed learned to do my part to keep kids and
adults off drugs. We do a lot of activities in our
community. This morning our Lea' Lea' students went on a
shopping spree at Ross, which was funded by the Salvation
Army Family Intervention. We do cultural performances, for
example every Monday nights we perform at Kona Coast
Resort, we have karate activities for our students of Lea'
Lea' After School Program on Tuesdays and Thursdays, we
aslo have computer lessons. We continue to have dances at
the schools. We work with the Alu Like, ATOD
(Alcohol,Tobacco,otherdrugsy program. We participate in
parades, garden projects, and I am an Alaka'i in our Lea'
Lea' Na Opio summer and after school program. Every
Christmas we provide Christmas gifts to the less fortunate
and low income housings with help from Hualalai Acadamy.
We hope to recieve these funds so we can continue to
help our community, fight drugs and domestic violence by
doing positive activities. We Thank You for your
consideration, and Mahalo.
