Good Afternoon Council Members,
My name is Daniel Soo and I am 16 years of age, and a current junior at Hualalai
Academy High School here in Kona. My address is 74-5078 Haleolono street, Kailua-
Kona, HI 96740.
In behalf of the Kealakehe Community Youth Council, I beaz testimony in support of
an endowed allocation of $10,000 for our Organization's use. The Kealakehe Community
Youth Council has been in our community for over 10 years. Through their outreaches,
programs, and substance abuse preventions, I have learned many virtues that are not
normally taught. The many events and programs that our organization administer in the
community aze commendable and do cost money. Even though there are issues and
subjects that we can prevent without funding, but to reach the larger public, funding is
applicable.
This organization's happenings are endless. Blending culture, morals, technology,
and life skills, multiple programs and events occur all through out the year. We put on
events like pazades, Law enforcement events, drug prevention conferences, drug and teen
pregnancy prevention classes, computer classes, hula programs, cultural knowledge
classes, Hawaiian values programs. We also participate in large events in the community
such as the Big Island Farm Far, Kona Coffee Festival, and also various Teen substance
abuse conferences. Through the years, I as a member of this association have learned that
funding for these programs are a necessity to keep the community strong and wil~lfu_l. In
the past few months we have seen not only our community, and town but the entire state
of Hawaii go through several changes. So imputing new programs to assist our friends
and family better themselves and their lives. We feel that if youth and adults have
somewhere safe and comfortable to go and learn, they would not be out in the world
doing things they should not.
So in conclusion, please take my testimony of how abundant and great my
Organization's outcomes are to the people of Kona, and the residents of Kealakehe.
Please take into consideration the issues and proclamations I have presented before you
today, and remember that programs like the ones that we provide help Hawaii to strive to
be Pono, or in righteousness.
