Good Afternoon,
My name is Shiloah Watai; I am 16 years old and ~
attend Hualalai Academy High School as a junior. My address is 74-895 Kealakehe
St. Apartment 126 Kailua-Kona, Hawaii, 96740.
In behalf of the Kealakehe Community Youth Council, I bear testimony of
receiving a 20,000 grant supporting our organization. Our organization has been in
existence for over 10 years, and I have been involved in it's curriculum since. With
the many changes that we've tried to provide, I have learned, the need for money is
great. There are certain things in your community you can accomplish without
money but because one of our primary values are outreach prevention education,
having no budget makes the task somewhat impossible. Because we are heavily
active in our different communities we all know that crime, violence, and drugs affect
it greatly so the importance of supervision amongst others as myself is needed. We,
the program, believe that having somewhere for youth to be as a substitute for being
home alone, or free to roam the streets is valued therefore having an after school,
sometimes weekend program decreases the number of kids watching kids while
parents are working. For the past three months, the Youth Crime Watch-Kealakehe
after school program has strictly engaged the attention of 30 kids in Martial Arts,
Polynesian Dance, Substance Abuse Prevention Education, Gardening,
Photography, Life Skills and Computer Learning Skills in the provided Kealakehe

Community Technology Center at our Kealakehe Intermediate School. With the
increasing number of participants using this money would help in continuing the
prevention education and strengthening the value of giving kids "somewhere to go."
I tried to be self-explanatory so take my testimony of how great the outcomes
of this program are and please keep in mind that giving us this grant gives the
definition of the "aloha spirit" to your title.
