Re: Animal Control Bill 258
Dear Counclman Hoffman,
On behalf of AdvoCATS, Inc., I would like to express our negative opinion of Bill
258, the Animal Control Ordinance (Draft 5? 6?) which Mayor Kim has just vetoed.
We responded negatively to all the drafts of this bill to the Council and especially to
Mr. Holschuh. The bill contains some provisions which are very unfair to AdvoCATS, an
organization which is trying to help the county solve the overpopulation problem of feral
We have never been given the opportunity to read this bill but at a teleconference
12/116 here in Kona, I read a copy of this latest draft and once again, we find it
unacceptable. This bill is bad for the animals as well as for those who would have to
enforce ft and is also considered unacceptable by HIHS and by the Police Department.
Please do not override the Mayor's veto of Bill 258. It needs to be redrafted
(again) but this time, the Councl needs to consult the organizations that work with animals on
the Big Island.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
ROBERTA AGRE
