RESOLUTION NO. 34 0
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, through the combined efforts of Professor Richard Stevens, community
members and military personnel, more than 3,100 volunteer hours have been donated to remove
unsightly alien fountain grass at the West Hawaii Veterans' Cemetery and to put in its place a
native dryland forest; and
WHEREAS, the native dryland forest at the West Hawaii Veterans' Cemetery has
suffered damage to its native trees and shrubs due to feral animals; and
WHEREAS, despite the fact that fencing has been installed around the cemetery at the
West Hawaii Veterans' Cemetery, gravesites have also suffered damage caused by feral
animals; and
WHEREAS, the $10,000.00 appropriation from Council District 8 discretionary funds is
intended to assist in resolving these issues and allocated as follows: $7,000.00 towards native
dryland reforestation at the West Hawaii Veterans' Cemetery, and $3,000.00 towazds game
management and implementation of protective measures to address and mitigate damage to
gravesites and native dryland forest caused by feral animals.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY
OF HAWAII that the following amount is hereby transferred and appropriated as set forth
below:

BE TT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk of the County of Hawaii shall
forward a copy of this resolution to the Director of Parks and Recreation and the Director of
Finance and that the Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in
accordance with the terms of this resolution.
