Dear Chairman Hoffmann and Council Members: - ~
It is my pleasure to nominate the following individuals to the Hawaii County Transportation
Commission: -
Council District 9 -John J. Fernandez of Council District 9 is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. He
is retired from Renter's Choice, where he was employed as a manager from 1992 to 1997.
Mr. Fernandez is the chairman of both the North Kohala Partners in Eldercare and the North
Kohala Community Voices Council. He is also a member of the Mayor's Committee on Aging
and a past member of the County of Hawaii Reapportionment Commission. Mr. Fernandez
states that he is not affiliated with any political party. If confirmed, he will serve a term to end on
December 31, 2011, replacing Mr. Michael Sumja, whose term expired on December 31, 2006.
Council District 5 -Elizabeth J. Hultman-Salfen is an 18-year resident of Hawaii. She is
currently the manager of the Nanawale Community Association. From 1991 to 2000, she was
employed by Paul H. Rosendahl, Ph.D., Inc., as project accountant. Ms. Hultman-Salfen is the
treasurer of the Pu'ula United Church of Christ, a Girl Scout Leader, and she is a member of the
Pahoa Weed and Seed Youth Committee. Ms. Hultman-Salfen states that she is not affiliated
with any political party. If confirmed, she will serve a term to end on December 31, 2009.
