The State of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General has authorized a $34,500
Statewide Sexual Assault Training Grant to the Hawaii Office of the Prosecuting Attorney.
These funds will be used to coordinate a statewide training program aimed at improving
the delivery of sexual assault services within the criminal justice system.
Enclosed is a resolution to authorize the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State
of Hawaii Department of the Attorney General.
Also enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating
this $34,500 grant.

A. REQUEST:
1) Requesting a resolution authorizing the Mayor to enter into an agreement with the State Department of
the Attorney General to receive federal grant funds for a Statewide Sexual Assault Training.
2) Requesting a bill for an ordinance to appropriate $34,500 for a Statewide Sexual Assault Training.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDEDI:
The County of Hawaii has been allocated funds from the FY 2005 Justice Assistance Grant for a Statewide
Sexual Assault Training for police, prosecutors, mdical/forensic examiners, victim advocates and service
providers. A summary of the project is attached.

The Hawaii Office of the Prosecuting Attorney proposal for the FY 2006 Justice Assistance
Grant (JAG) for the Statewide Sexual Assault Training was selected to receive a JAG awazd.
However, due to limited funding in FY 2006 JAG program, this project will be receiving a grant
award from the FY 2005 JAG program.
Project Title: Statewide Sexual Assault Trainin¢
Amount: $ 34,500 Federal

$ 43,125 Total
Your agency is responsible for providing the 20% match. If the project is unable to provide
all of the required match funds, please have the project director call the assigned Planning
Specialist, Kathleen Mitchell at (808) 586-1389. An Applicant's Manual is being sent directly to
the project director. The project director will need to submit an original and two copies of the
application for grant to the Department of the Attorney General, Crime Prevention & Justice
Assistance Division. Instructions on completing the application aze provided in the manual.
