Position against bill 345
I am not against helping those who need help. It is what I do for a living. However, in its
current form, bi11345 is not a good bill and I ask that you vote against it. The spirit and
intent of the bill are good. The services it could provide are definitely needed. But it is
also vague, and there are too many unanswered questions.
This bill has the potential to impact a community so greatly that it needs to sit well with
everyone. If it were put to a populaz vote, I don't think the public would vote for it.
However, if properly worded and with adequate education to the public, we might
support such a bill.
Many of us aze hung-up on the numbers, between five and eight residents, plus staff
depending on the configuration. I work in health care. Staffing ratios aze always a huge
concern, in all settings. The potential number of people who may be living next door to
you is scary, when you do the math.
Accountability is another lazge concern. What mechanisms aze in place to prevent
problems? And what can the community do if problems arise?
We all wish to live in an environment that is safe and predictable. This is a reasonable
wish and a very important human need (according to a guy named Maslow, anyway.)
Implement this in a way the community can feel comfortable, and I think there will be
much more support. Thank you for your time.
