Dear Chairwoman Ford and Committee Members:
RE: Resolution Appointing Kenneth G. Goodenow as the
Deputy County Clerk
Communication 163 (Resolution 69-07)
This is an unsolicited letter in strong support of the confirmation of
Kenneth G. Goodenow as the County of Hawai'i's next Deputy County Clerk.
Kenny has been a member in good standing of the Hawaii State Bar
since 2003. I first met Kenny approximately two years ago through our local
Hawaii County Bar Association. My interaction at the time with Kenny was
purely social (bar functions), as we did not have occasion to work with one
another on any significant cases. Kenny always conducted himself in a gracious
and respectful manner, and treated everyone with respect. He has a wonderful
and warm personality; you can never tell if he is having a bad day.
When Kenny joined the County of Hawaii as a Legal Specialist, our office
worked very closely with him on a variety of legal issues. Kenny has very good
legal talent. His research is thorough and he is a persuasive writer. On the legal
issues where our office and he differed, Kenny always represented his office and
the Council in a very professional manner, and worked with our office towards
mutual understanding and compromise.
In the event Kenny left the position of Legal Specialist, it was my desire to
hire Kenny as a Deputy Corporation Counsel for our County. I believe Kenny
would have been an excellent addition to our office team.

For the above reasons, I believe Kenny will serve the Council, our County,
and the community well as Deputy County Clerk. County Clerk Casey Jarman
should be commended for bringing forward such a qualified and deserving
candidate for this very important office.
Thank you for allowing me the opportunity to provide this input. Please
contact me if you have any questions.
Very truly yours,
LINCOLN S. T. ASHIDA
