SUBJECT: TRAFFIC CODE AMENDMENT ~
DIRECTOR IS AUTHORIZED TO REDUCE SPEED LIMITS IN 1=
RESIDENTIAL AND BUSINESS DISTRICTS TO A MINIMUM OF 15 MPH
There are occasions during the development of new subdivisions when topographical, geometric
and/or physical conditions restrict sight distances, vehicle operations and/or other engineering
safety factors that could be avoided by reducing the maximum speed limits.
This amendment will allow the Director of Public Works to reduce the existing 25 mph
maximum speed limit in five mile per hour increments to a minimum of 15 miles per hour for
any subdivision being developed under Chapter 23 of the Hawai'I County Code.
We ask for your review and consideration for adoption of the subject amendment. Should you
