Dear Chairman Hoffmann and Council Members:
It is my pleasure to inform you that I have appointed Andrea Mejia of Council District 3 to the County of
Hawaii Mayor's Committee on the Status of Women. Ms. Mejia is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. She
retired from the Hawaii County Police Department in 2006 as a Police Detective/Sergeant, a position she
held for ten years. Ms. Mejia has the distinction of being the first female patrol officer of the Hawaii
County Police Department. She is presently the coordinator of both the Social Ministry and the
Bereavement Committee at St. Theresa's Catholic Church. Ms. Mejia states that she is a member of the
Democratic Party. She will serve a term to expire on December 31, 2010.
I have also reappointed the following individuals to this committee:
Council District 1 -Janet Coburn is a 24-year resident of Hawaii. Since 2001, she has been the
Managing Director of the Kahilu Theatre Foundation. She has been a member of this committee for the
past four years. Ms. Coburn states that she is not affiliated with any political party. This term, which is a
reappointed term from December, 2006, will expire on December 31, 2010.
Council District 5 -Charmaine Ka-ipo is a lifelong resident of Hawaii. Since 1991, she has been the
Manager of Employee Training Services at the Arc of Hilo. She has been a member of this committee for
the past four years. Ms. Kai-po states that she is not affiliated with any political party. This term, which is
a reappointed term from December, 2006, will expire on December 31, 2010
