Re: Office of Information Practices ("GIP") Training ,
Dear Council Chair Hoffmann:
Thank you for inviting the Office of Information Practices ("GIP") to provide
training on the Sunshine Law to the Hawaii County council members. Compliance
with our open government law is vital to nurturing and maintaining the public's
trust and confidence in government. OIP knows that the Sunshine Law can be
confusing, especially for those who have not had prior experience with the law. OIP
hopes it was able to provide everyone with a better understanding of the statute's
requirements as well as the resources that are available to you and all members
should any questions relating to the Sunshine Law arise.
As mentioned during the presentation, through the Attorney-of--the-Day
program, government agencies and boards and commissions are able to get
immediate guidance from OIP on questions involving government records and open
meetings. Please contact us or visit our website (www.hawaii. og
v/oip) if you should
have any questions.
Ve t ly yours,
Leslie H. Kondo Comm. ho•1
