ItE: Testimony in support of Resolution 21-07
This letter is written in support of Resolution 21-07, which would impose limits on
the sizes of big box superstores on the Big Island.
Without this resolution, the development of supercenters could occur-unchecked
by current planning parameters. In many places on the mainland, superstores are over 5
football fields in length and often generate over 20,000 car trips a day. It is easy to see
the potential for adverse community impacts including traffic congestion, environmental
consequences, and increased demand on government infrastructure.
As residents of the Big Island, we use concerned that these superstores, if not
properly developed in appropriate areas, will bring too much traffic to our already
congested roads and wilt hurt local retail stores that have been here for many years-
substantially changing the character and landscape of Big Island life.
We need common sense resolutions like 21-07 that set reasonable size restrictions
on supercenters, to preserve what is good about the Big Island for future generations.
Respectfully submitt~d,-
