Mahalo for your attention to it. Comm. t~q ~ ZZ'•Z Ref. To: rasa Ref. Date 2/5/2007 Linda Dayton 72-1042 Mamalahoa Hwy. Kailua Kona, HI 96740 Dominic Yagong Chairman, Finance Committee And Committee Members 3 Pepeluali 2007 Aloha, The following is my written testimony to be included in the hearing that is to be heard by the Finance Committee on February 8, 2007. The hearing I am concerned about is a Resolution to establish a Water Improvement District for Pu'ukala, North Kona . I have been a home owner and resident of Pu'ukala since 1991 and have ever since struggled to meet my family's water needs. We have participated ever hopefully in all efforts towards providing all of our community with county water for the past 15 years, but to no avail. I have come to appreciate fully the Hawaiian value for water. The word for 'water' in the Hawaiian language is 'wai'. The Hawaiian word for wealth is also 'wai' or `waiwai'. Although my family is not dependant upon water for agricultural purposes, we do depend upon our water resources for sustenance of our daily needs. Being dependent upon a catchment system means we have no water should the power go out. Our water resources are also seriously affected during times of drought. Should a fire occur, many of us could be at risk of loosing our beloved homes, perhaps even more devastating, family members. Please consider our request earnestly. Mahalo no, me ke aloha, Linda Dayton
