Subject: Bills 220 &221
To Whom It May Concern; I am not able to attend ,and ask my testimony to be read, Mahalo.
Aloha County Council of Hawaii,
These bills represent a threat to the future of Puna. If passed, they would set a precedent for further expansion of
commercial uses of properties adjoining Highways 130 and 11. I strongly object to such development. The issues
are many, from traffic safety to preserving the rural nature of the area. This project goes against state land
designations, current county zoning, the recommendations of Chris Yuen's office, and the desires of every
resident I have spoken with. Further, the consideration of this proposal, and any such zoning change requests, at
this time, is at best inappropriate. With many citizens, professionals, and county and state personnel working
towards formulation of a comprehensive plan for the future of our district, (the PCDP), I respectfully request that
these bills be rejected. I also ask the council to not consider any additional zoning change legislation until the
planning process is completed. I would also suggest enforcement measures against existing non-conforming uses
be initiated by county authorities, rather than public complaint, and the funding for this enforcement be made
available. Mahalo,
Jeff Lux,
