Dear County Council,
As a resident of West Hawaii, I support Mr. Ikeda's proposal to cut back on items that are not
necessary.
In this case, having a separate amphitheater, museum and play area are excessive and should be
deleted at this time. We should concentrate on the once building, good sized meeting rooms and
an open courtyard or "gathering puce" that could also serve as an amphitheater if designed by a
creative architect who knows how to keep things simple yet functional. As for the museum, I really
don't see the need to have a mainland style enclosed museum since our museums already exist as
Living Museums in the form of our historical sites and scenery Cin the form ofthe 2% land fund)
Since there are fields at the nearby highschool for "playing", I don't see a pressing need to have large
play area.
The County is already going to have to spend big bucks to build the access roads to this building.
How much is that going to cost us? Also, I understand that there are plans fora West Hawaii
Emergency Shelter. How much is that going to cost us?And why isn't this emergency shelter being
incorporated into the Civic Center?
Bottom line is that the amphitheater, museum and play area are excessive and continuing to push
these original plans through and creating unnecessary debt is fiscally irresponsible.
