Re: Capital Budget
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance adding the Earthquake Damage -FHWA project for
$5,500,000 to the Capital Budget. This appropriation represents the Federal Highways
Administration's (FHWA) funding for the repair work for damages resulting from the
October 15, 2006 earthquake. At this time, the Department of Public Works has signed
Project Worksheets with FHWA for a total estimated cost of approximately $6,800,000.
FHWA's reimbursement for most project costs is 80%, or the $5,500,000 that we are
appropriating at this time.
Due to the need to begin repairs as soon as possible, we humbly request a waiver from
the Finance Committee and have this bill heard at the Council meeting scheduled for
April 4, 2007.
If there are any questions, please do not hesitate to call Nancy Crawford, Deputy Director
of Finance.
