The goal of this program is to reduce the number of alcohol, speed, and seat belt non-use related traffic fatalities and injuries on the Big Island by 10 percent. The community based traffic coordinator will plan and coordinate media and educational activities and be a liaison between state, county and community agencies and organizations. In the current fiscal year's budget, $30,000 was appropriated in anticipation of this grant. Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget by appropriating the additional funds into the Community Based Traffic Coordinator account and bringing the total grant appropriation to $52,000.
