Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations, to which was refereed Bill No. 59,
reports as follows:
Bill No. 59, transmitted by Director of Public Works Bruce McClure, via Communication No. 191,
dated February 12, 2007, to amend Chapter 24 of the Hawaii County Code, 1983 (2005 Edition).
Bill No. 59 amends Chapter 24, Article 1, Section 24-3, of the Hawaii County Code, 1983 (2005
Edition), is amended to clarify the meaning of "speed limit".
It also amends Chapter 24, Article 7, Division 2, of the Hawaii County Code 1983 (2005 Edition), is
amended to authorize the Director of Public Works to reduce the existing 25 mph maximum speed
limit in five mile per hour increments to a minimum of 15 miles per hour for any subdivision being
developed under Chapter 23 of the Hawaii County Code.
Your Committee on Public Works and Intergovernmental Relations is in accord with the purpose and
intent of Bill No. 59, and recommends it pass first reading.
