RESOLUTION NO. 159 U 7
RESOLUTION AUTHORIZING THE ACCEPTANCE OF A MONETARY GIFT OF
THREE THOUSAND SIX HUNDRED SIXTY ONE DOLLARS AND FIVE CENTS
($3,661.05) FROM THE GREGG MALKIN MEMORIAL FUND TO THE HAWAII
FIRE DEPARTMENT
WHEREAS, Glenn and Donna Malkin wishes to recognize the tireless efforts and the
compassion they witnessed during the life-threatening attempts of the Hawaii Fire Department's
rescue team to rescue their son, Gregg Malkin, who perished in a drowning accident, offshore of
Maku'u Drive in Hawaiian Paradise Park, the day after Thanksgiving Day; and
WHEREAS, the Malkin Family are very committed to making a difference through their
monetary gift of three thousand six hundred sixty one dollars and five cents ($3,661.05) to honor
their son's memory; and
WHEREAS, these funds will be used for the purchase of thermal gear for the rescue team;
and
WHEREAS, funds are being received from the Gregg Malkin Memorial Fund which is under
the umbrella of the Daniel R. Sayre Memorial Fund; and
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Fire Department recommends the acceptance of this
monetary gift; and
WHEREAS, Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, provides that the
Council, on behalf of the County, may accept gifts or donations of money, securities, or other
personal property or real estate or any interest in real estate.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF
HAWAII, in accordance with Article XIII, Section 13-12 of the Hawaii County Charter, the County
of Hawaii Fire Department is authorized to accept this monetary gift of three thousand six hundred
sixty one dollars and five cents ($3,661.05) from the Gregg Malkin Memorial Fund.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that a letter of appreciation and a copy of this resolution be
sent to Glenn and Donna Malkin, 24938 Lorena Drive, Calabasas, California 91302,
acknowledging this generous gift.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall also forward copies of this
resolution to the Hawaii County Fire Department and the Department of Finance.
