Subject: FY 07-08 SUPPLEMENTAL BUDGET REQUESTS
Dear Chairman Hoffmann and Council Members,
Enclosed is a supplemental request summary for the FY 07-08 operating budget.
These supplemental budget requests have been updated to remove requests that were previously
added into the March ls` budget submittal and to add needs that have arisen since our last
request.
At Council's budget review with the Department, our Solid Waste Division was asked to review
our equipment needs. As a result of this, the Solid W aste Division determined that mid-sized
excavators were needed at each landfill and we would like to include these items in the FY 07-08
budget. In addition to the excavators, the Solid Waste Division has determined that smaller roll-
on, roll-off boxes and a corresponding sized truck would be the best option to operate the
Miloli'i transfer station. While the 40 cubic yard roll-on, roll-offboxes and trucks already added
to the budget could be used for Miloli'i or green waste and bulky goods collections, the smaller
boxes would make hauling a bit easier on the steep, narrow road.
Council member Jacobson has expressed his desire for us to increase the Household Hazazdous
Waste and Electronic Waste programs as well as adding a Solid Waste Inspector to address
illegal dumping. Those requests have also been incorporated into our Supplemental Budget
Requests.
