Attaches a copy of a letter from Dean Steiner, dated April 1, 2007, stating the University will conduct research to determine the mix of crops suitable for the different microclimates that exist in Hawaii County, as agricultural producers wish to see a "proof of concept" to demonstrate that these crops can be grown economically and trouble free before committing millions of dollars to new plantations. Thirty-six (36) organizations have submitted applications for 57 programs, totaling $1,778,800. Attaches a list of organizations, the program titles, and amount requested including three (3) that were ruled ineligible. Postponed: February 21, 2007 Comm. 157.4: RECOMMENDATIONS FOR FISCAL YEAR 2007-2008 APPROPRIATIONS TO NONPROFIT ORGANIZATIONS From Human Services and Economic Development Committee (HSEDC) Chair Emily I. Naeole, dated March 30, 2007, transmitting the above recommendations for inclusion in the County of Hawai`i's Operating Budget for Fiscal Year 2007-2008. States the recommendations have been developed through an intense review of qualifying applications submitted to the Department of Finance, interviews and/or site visits, and strong consideration of recommendations submitted by Councilmembers who were part of the Ad Hoc Committee who attended the interviews and site visits. Recommendations include an additional $600,000 to the awards bringing the total amount of grant awards to $1.5 million. ADJOURNMENT The meeting place is accessible for persons with disabilities.
