RESOLUTION NO. 1~$ U ~
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A
DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, the Paniolo Preservation Society (PPS) is an independent, not-for-profit,
voluntary organization of individuals dedicated to preserving the paniolo tradition as a
significant part of the history of Hawaii and of the Western heritage of the United States; and
WHEREAS, PPS represents ranch families from across the state; and
WHEREAS, PPS preserves artifacts, natural history, and living history representative of
Hawai`i's paniolo heritage and raises community awazeness about the significance of Hawai`i's
livestock industry through public education and activities; and
WHEREAS, research has shown that farm festivals throughout the world are a
significant aspect of the tourism generating process, and paniolo life is recognized as a strong
agri-tourism product of Hawaii Island; and
WHEREAS, PPS is hosting "The Great Waiomina Centennial Celebration," a statewide
festival consisting of art, music, cultural, and culinazy events focused azound the paniolo theme,
as well as rodeos across the state; and
WHEREAS, "The Great Waiomina Centennial Celebration" will provide visitors to
Hawaii Island with a unique experience by showcasing our Island's rich paniolo culture and
agricultural heritage; and
WHEREAS, funding will be required for exhibit prepazation work, including design,
photo selection, caption design, mounting, and assembly of freestanding exhibit boards, and
advertising in various statewide and island-wide media will be used to azouse interest in "The
Great Waiomina Centennial Celebration" events; and
WHEREAS, discretionary funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the
Department of Research and Development to be used as a grant towazds the Paniolo Preservation
Society for the "The Great Waiomina Centennial Celebration"; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the
following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

CREDITED TO:
010.161.5161.60 Department of Reseazch & Development $10,000

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Reseazch and Development and the Director of Finance and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessazy transfers in accordance with the
terms of this Resolution.
