has been a fu116 months and more since I addressed my concerns to the Committee of Public
Works and Parks. I am hoping that my concems can be realized before the end of the summer.

Re: Clearing of drainage channel and repair of easement chain-link fence
Dear Mr. Nakasone:
I am concerned that the drainage channel at the rear of my property and which crosses under
Hoaka Road near Malaai Street has not been maintained consistently previous to and following
the flood occurring in 1994, which severely damaged homes and property in this area.
As stated in my letter to Council Chairperson Jimmy Arakaki, December 03, 1997, there is a
gradual accumulation of debris in the channel and plant growth along the edges of the channel
has proliferated. The County has yet to repair the chain link fence which separates the channel
from the rear of my property although it was scheduled in January, 1998, following my initial
request.
I would further request that the maintenance of the channel be scheduled at regular intervals and
that the department survey the upper portions of the stream to locate potential obstructions to the
water drainage in the channel. In 1994, debris from the upper stream blocked the box culvert at
Hoaka Road and caused the flood.
Please let me know when we can expect the maintenance of the drainage channel and the repair
of the fence. Thank you for your assistance in this matter.
