Dear Councilman Arakaki:
I am writing regarding the condition of the flood control channel which crosses Hoaka
Road near Malaai Street in Waiakea Uka and the channel fence which borders the rear
of our property.
The County has not maintained the channel consistently. There has not been a
clearing or clean up of the channel during the past year. There are much accumulated
debris, sediment, and tall grasses in the channel near the Hoaka Road culvert. The
boundaries of the channel are overgrown with vegetation.
The fence bordering the channel at the rear of our property was not repaired with other
portions of that fence, following the August 1994 flood. This portion of the fence at the
rear of our property is in bad condition.
Can the County also research the possibility of establishing a debris catcher before the
concrete channel begins (upstream from the culvert) which would prevent the culvert
from being blocked?
I would appreciate your help in requesting County maintenance and research into my
query. Thank you very much.
