RESOLUTION NO. 179 U 1
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO
A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, the Hawaii Island Visitors Bureau ("HIVB") is a SOlc 6 nonprofit
organization whose purpose is to promote the Island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, HIVB looks to address the decline in Japanese arrivals by increasing
efforts to attract Japanese arrivals to the Island of Hawaii; and
WHEREAS, HIVB further seeks to increase visitor length of stay by converting one-
day visitors to those who visit the island for two or more nights; and
WHEREAS, HIVB has identified target markets for the Island of Hawaii, including
student groups, the senior market, hula and Hawaiian culture-interested visitors, and health
and wellness travelers; and
WHEREAS, monies are needed to cover the costs for promotion initiatives including
providing a presence at the 2007 Yokohama Hawaii Festival, preparation and distribution of
materials for Japanese student group travel, preparation of a Japanese language map, and to
leverage HIVB's new Japanese DVD through in-flight videos; and
WHEREAS, discretionary funds from Council District 2 will be appropriated to the
Department of Research and Development to be used as a grant towards the HIVB Japanese
Marketing Promotion; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
the following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below:

CREDITED TO:
010.161.5161.60 Department of Research and Development $24,000

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Director of Research and Development and Director of Finance and that the
Director of Finance is hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with
the terms of this resolution.
