RE: RES. 105-07
(Project Grad funds)
~lS.1i. _
To Council Chair Pete Hoffmann and Councilmembers
Dear Sirs/Madams:
I am writing a letter of supaort for Resolution 105-07.
For a number of years now, the Waiakea High School Project Grad Committee,
made up of parents, community members and faculty, work to plan the best
possible drug free, alcohol free and safe event for our graduating seniors. Year
after year, we depend on the donations from our business community to give us
the much needed donations in order to make this event possible. The
Committee has also solicited parents, too, to make monetary donations.
This year would be no exception, and we humbly ask if you would vote to adopt
Res. 105-07 whereby funds from Councilmember Higa's discretionary funds
would come as a HUGE welcomed relief to help pay for the many expenses;
these expenses, without any donations would cost $18,000. Not only would this
money help this year's Project Grad, but it would help next year's event as well.
The graduates are STRONGLY encouraged to come to the event; and there are
incentives to entice as many graduating seniors as we can.
Expenses such as rent and cost per person charge at the Hilo Yacht Club,
Entertainment, Food, Activities, Insurance and Prizes are among the many costly
activities.
In addition, many community members volunteer and unselfishly come to the
event throughout the night and provide services such as chaperoning, providing
services such as haircutting, manicuring, food preparation, serving, emceeing,
game managing, security, just to name a few. Many hands are needed to
properly supervise and carry out the activities for the graduates, and without
these volunteers, the event could not happen.
Please vote in favor of Res. 105-07
Sincerely,
LILLIAN YOU
