Murashige, Laura
From: Jeff Lux [housemaster@hawau rr.comj , ; ~ , tS~j ~
Sent: Monday, April 02, 2007 7:02 PM `~I
To: counciltestimony@co.hawaii.hi.us _
Subject: Bill #156 ~ ,t'

To whom it may concern; I am unable to attend, please have testimony read. Mahalo.

Aloha County Council, While Bill # 156 appears to have good intentions, I believe the fallout from passage would
be detrimental overall. Industrial parks may slightly increase the need for housing, but they would actually provide

the means to pay for a place to live. Exempting smaller parcels is contrary to good planning. 1 would rather see a

few well designed, appropriately placed, large business parks, than many small strip developments. The smaller
developments would likely not include living wage jobs, as opposed to larger projects. The need for affordable
housing is real, but to tax the people providing jobs is not in my opinion, productive. If an assessment is to be
made, I would direct it at short term investors, who do more to affect housing prices, without providing any
assistance to low income buyers. Business or housing developers, who provide jobs to pay for housing, or
provide additional housing inventory, contribute to more affordable housing, rather than to escalating
prices. Please do not pass this bill as submitted.
