Subject: Concerns regarding bill 156
Aloha,
I am writing on behalf of Mainstreet Pahoa Association (MSPA) and have concerns about Bill
156
Our concerns:
Puna and Pahoa Village are seriously starved for legitimate business
zoning and MSPA is an advocate of creation of local business parks to
local provide economic opportunity in a deprived area. The PCDP is
making recommendations to this purpose as well.
Puna District and the Pahoa Village area probably possess the most
affordable land and housing in the county and state at this time. We
(MSPA) do hope to improve the affordable housing potentials by creating
appropriate zoning to encourage affordable housing investment.
Bill 156 would appear to tax, and thus inhibit, the creation of local
business parks which we sorely need. We believe that local business
development should be encouraged, not discouraged, and that the
availability of local job opportunities will increase the ability to
afford housing.
Could you please rebut our POV or provide logic that Bill 156 would not
damage our hopes for the area?
