Deaz Chairman Hoffmann and Council Members,
Thank you for working with the Department to help find a variety of solutions to our
solid waste situation.
In researching the process for revising the Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan,
Hawaii Revised Statutes only provides a process for complete revisions of the plan. It
mandates revision every five yeazs and we are preparing for that in the next Fiscal Year
(07-08). We have requested $300,000 in the Solid Waste Division Operations Budget to
update the 2002 plan.
When the next Update to the Integrated Solid Waste Plan begins, we will follow the
process laid out in HRS 342 G . I envision the mitigation plan and mitigation wst
analysis addressing leachate treatment will be an early part of our research as well as a
waste composition analysis for West Hawai i.
We appreciate your direction on this issue and will incorporate the concept of a wet azea
landfill in the next Integrated Solid Waste Management Plan cycle.
