Your Committee on Finance, to which was referred Resolution No. 97-07, reports as follows:
Resolution No. 97-07, transmitted jointly with Bill No. 67, by Director of Finance William
Takaba, via Communication No. 233, dated March 6, 2007, authorizes the Mayor to enter into an
agreement with the Hawaii Tourism Authority.
The Hawaii Tourism Authority has authorized a $24,750 grant to the Department of Research
and Development for the administration and oversight of the Tourism Strategic Plan for Hawaii
County. The Hawaii Tourism Authority created a statewide plan in 2005, and subsequently
funded the plans for each of the islands, including Hawaii Island in December, 2006. These
funds will be used to launch the plan to all of the relevant tourism-industry stakeholders, as well
as the residents of the community.
In accordance with Section 46-7, Hawaii Revised Statutes, that the Mayor of the County of
Hawaii is authorized to execute, on behalf of the County, a letter of agreement with the Hawaii
Tourism Authority.
Your Committee on Finance is in accord with the purpose and intent of Resolution No. 97-07
and recommends its adoption.
