Council Chairman Pete Hoffman
and Members of the County Council
County of Hawaii `J
Hilo, HI 96720 .1
Dear Chairman Hoffman and Council Members:
As you know, the County of Hawaii Planning Department has initiated the
process for the South Kohala Community Development Plan (CDP). The
General Plan calls for the formation of a steering committee, which would be
appointed by the Mayor and confirmed by the County Council.
Previously 11 names were forwarded for your review and confirmation and
unfortunately one of the nominees is no longer able to fulfill the commitment of
serving on the South Kohala Steering Committee. Accordingly, I am forwarding
for your review and confirmation an alternate who is eager to participate in the
CDP process. We would appreciate your attention on this matter and are
requesting that this item be placed on the May 15, 2007 Planning Committee
Agenda for discussion and with confirmation of this individual on the June 1,
2007 full Council agenda.
The 11 nominees selected to serve on the South Kohala CDPSC are individuals
who live and/or work in South Kohala, and whose primary purpose is to ensure
that the South Kohala CDP process has a broad base of community participation
and is prepared in the best interest of the health and welfare of the community.
The Steering Committee would in many ways serve as ambassadors for the
planning process. Their term is for a 2-year period and would be extended if
necessary to run parallel with the CDP process.
It is my pleasure to inform you that I have appointed the following individual to
the newly created South Kohala CDPSC:
Comm. No. 2 3
