+tv or <br /> ~~is: <br /> COUNTY OF HAWAII STATE OF HAWAII <br /> or <br /> RESOLUTION NO. 18? 07 <br /> <br /> A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT <br /> <br /> AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO A <br /> <br /> DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) <br /> WHEREAS, Hawaii imports more than 90% of the food consumed on the island and <br /> has only an eight-day supply of food in reserve in the event of an emergency; and <br /> WHEREAS, increasing the island's food security by supporting family fazmers and <br /> improving locally based food systems is critically important to ensure the safety and security of <br /> the people of Hawaii; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Hawaii Island Food Security Symposium will help to generate <br /> awareness about local food security issues and bring together the people who can help to shift the <br /> future of Hawaiian agriculture toward an ecologically sound, self-sustaining system; and <br /> WHEREAS, the Symposium will bring together leading national technical and policy <br /> experts, local policy makers, private-sector stakeholders, farmers, and citizens to discuss <br /> strategies to create a more self-sufficient local food system and create deeper working <br /> relationships among these groups to plan for the future; and <br /> WHEREAS, The Hawaii Island Food Security Symposium is pazt of a larger program <br /> being sponsored by The Kohala Center, called "Planet Hawaii", which is examining natural, <br /> material, and social systems on the island in order to find pathways to greater sustainability and <br /> security for Hawai`i's communities; and <br /> WHEREAS, funding will be required by The Kohala Center to sponsor speakers and <br /> mount the Symposium in October 2007, and for printing, graphics, and publicity for The Hawaii <br /> Island Food Security Symposium events; and <br /> WHEREAS, discretionary funds from Council District 9 will be appropriated to the <br /> Department of Research and Development to be used as a grant towards The Kohala Centex for <br /> The Hawaii Island Food Security Symposium; now, therefore, <br /> BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that the <br /> following amount is hereby transferred/appropriated as set forth below: <br /> FUND: General <br /> AMOUNT OF <br /> APPROPRIATION: $10,000 <br /> <br />
