The State of Hawaii Department of Transportation has authorized an additional-$x9,644 to
the Hawaii Office of the Prosecuting Attorney for it to conduct statewide training~nd
meetings for deputy prosecuting attorneys and police to improve communications between
agencies and to improve the law enforcement system in its efforts to enforce traffic
offenses.
Enclosed is a bill for an ordinance amending the Operating Budget and increasing the DUI &
Crash Reconstruction Training account by $9,644 and bringing the total appropriation to
$33,644.

Increase revenue in the amount of $9,644.00 and distribute to designated account for the disbursement of
funds for the Highway Safety Grant -Deputy Prosecutor Training.
B. BACKGROUND AND JUSTIFICATION (USE ADDITIONAL SHEETS AS NEEDED?:
We have been approved to receive additional federal grant funds through the State Department of
Tranportation for the purpose of conducting Statewide trainings and meetings for deputy prosecuting
attorneys and police.

Enclosed for your action is a copy of the approved highway safety reimbursement project
No. 5A07-08 (07-S-Ol), entitled "Prosecutor's Training". A total of $31,644.00 has been
obligated to the project.
The grant funds will be used to conduct statewide training and meetings for deputy prosecuting
attorneys and police to improve communications between agencies and improve the law
enforcement sys[em in its efforts to enforce traffic offenses.
Progress reports must be submitted quarterly within 15 days (ending May, August and
November) and a final report must be submitted within thirty days of the end of the grant period.
iZeimbursement claims must be submitted in accordance with the agreement {monthly or
quarterly) by the 20th of the month following the claim period. A claim must be submitted even
if no expenditures were made.
The project is subject to the audit requirements of the Office of Management and Budget (OMB)
A-133, Audit of State/I.ocal Government & Non-Profit Organizations. Note that the
Department/Program Number and Title with which this project should be associated in the
Schedule of Federal Assistance should be associated in the Schedule of Federal Assistance
Programs section of your single agency audit report are: Department of `Cransportatiotil20.600 -
State and Community Highway Safety Program. A copy of all audit reports covering the grant
period must be sent to the Department ofTransportation - HiglTway Safety Staff, $69 Punchbowl
