MAHALO. It is a falsehood that if we save Punalu'u there will be no more jobs in Ka'u. The Developers who wish to build over a thousand luxury homes at Punalu'u and destroy these sacred lands are spreading false information and propaganda throughout Ka'u to manipulate the truth about jobs in Kau. They are offering financial rewards to those who support their project and working directly with the local Press to spread these falsehoods. DO NOT BELIEVE what you read in the Ka'u Calendar. In the May issue, it reports that "Ka'u Preservation states that they will support only their plan, regardless of what the majority of the people choose.' This is not true and we have demanded an immediate retraction. Ka'u Preservation has held countless public meetings (some of the largest public meetings ever in Ka'u) seeking input from the community and would never go against the majority of the people in Ka'u, who infact support saving Punalu'u. The group known as OKK (O Kau Kakou) has attempted to mislead the community of Ka'u by pretending to be a grass roots organization that is "negotiating" with the developer. They claim that they represent Ka'u. But infact, they have received funding guarantees and free T-shirts from the developer and according to Pat Blew, the actual developer, as reported in the HONOLULU STAR HULLETIN(MOnday, April 9) "The resort is supported in the Kau community by a group called O Kau Kakou (We Are Kau) So we ask, how can a group supported by the developer negotiate with the developer?? We believe that by saving and protecting our natural and cultural resources we will be enhancing the economic future of Ka'u for future generations. By protecting Punalu-u as a "Living Classroom" we will bring better jobs to Ka'u through educational and culturally based careers that our youth will be proud Comm. No._J 4~ to pursue. By working tegether and making YOUR voice Ref. 7p; heard, WE CAN SAVE PUNALU'U! MAHALO. Ref. L`ote min Y=~ 1
