Dear Hawaii Councilmembers,
Please support the effort to purchase Punalu'u Beach Park and the
surrounding lands. Although my wife and I have only lived on the Big
Island for a year (in the Puna District), we have already realized
what a unique and wonderful place Punalu'u is. I am originally from
Honolulu, growing up in the 50`s when life was simpler, beaches were
accessible and in a close to pure state. After extensive development
throughout the islands, there is precious little of these places now.
Please do not let one of the last unspoiled ahupua'a become developed
only to really benefit a few. Let it remain a little-changed place
where many Hawaiians, hawaiians and visitors enjoy and learn about
the pure nature of the Island. There is far greater value in
preserving this land than to develop it into yet another resort area.
Respectfully,
Les Chibana & Mary Elsener Hackenbrook
