Testimony to Hawaii County Council Committee On Finance in Support of
Resolution 113-07 Appropriating Funds for Kona Town Meetings.
Date: April 3, 2007
Good Afternoon, Hawaii County Council Members,
My name is Fred Housel. My wife and I are Kona coffee farmers and volunteers in
Community Enterprises, anon-profit corporation which develops, organizes, schedules
and conducts monthly non-partisan community-based meetings to provide a forum for
community members to understand and discuss the needs of their community.
I'd like to ask for your support of Resolution 113-07 which provides needed funding to
conduct future Kona Town Meetings.
1'd like to offer a personal story about why this resolution and funding are so important.
We have owned our farm in Kona for 10 years and have been full time residents for 5
years. When we moved to Kona, we wanted to get involved in our community and gain
an understanding of what the important issues and concerns are and what we could do
to help.
We happened to notice the Kona Town Meetings and began to attend. We found these
meetings to be very informative and a tremendous opportunity for community members

to express ideas and feel like they can make a difference in Kona's growth and well-
being.
We feel it is very important to have this community forum to motivate community
involvement in addressing the major issues Kona is experiencing.

As you are probably aware, you may not always get the whole story by just reading
West Hawaii Today.
Thank you for your support on Kona Town Meetings and Resolution 113-07.
Comm. l~tc;.--2-,tees. !I°-'-
itaf. uase~,..u+.l...=
