Ladies & Gentlemen of the council,
Thank you for allowing me to submit testimony in support of the re-zoning of TMK:2-3-035:018 by
PUNAHELE PROFESSIONAL BUILDING in order to provide additional parking for the building. The
available parking is consistent with the county's requirement but we found that it was inadequate
primarily due to the Hawaii Radiologic Associates breast imaging center and the Hilo Community
Surgical Center which on occasions adds a considerable number of patients to our normal traffic. The fact
that the medical facilities in this area are surrounded by three major highways Punahele, Komohana, and
Ponohawai severely limits the number of on street parking available. This property was acquired before
the PUNAHELE PROFESSIONAL BUILDING was built and was planned to be an exit as well as
additional parking. The county disapproved this plan and would not allow us to utilize this property as
planned. We have accepted this decision despite the hardship it has caused patients, staff, and doctors.
We see this re-zoning as the only alternative to alleviate the parking congestion that occurs daily.
I pray that this re-zoning request will be given a favorable consideration.
