Aloha,
Punalu~u is a hot spot of contention, (3 fires since the first County Council meeting
on Bob Jacobson's resolution). It will continue to grow more intense, if the County
Council doesn't intervene on behalf of this ENTIRE community. Punalu'u to Ninole
shoreline, extending 2000 feet inland, can be preserved if the resolution to begin
negotiations to acquire the property is accepted by the County Council. Thank you for
scheduling the public hearing at the Na'alehu School cafeteria for Monday, June 4th.
Using funds available through " 2%-Open Space", from the State and from Mazie
Hirono's efforts, this strip of shoreline can be preserved for generations to come.
Turning_thi_s_into a County park does not mean development mauka will no_t
happen. It means that this shoreline will always be part of the public domain, available
to all people. Any developer would just have to build a little farther away from the coast.
