Re: Proposed Amendment to Bill 60, Draft 2
Operating Budget Proposal for FY 2007-08
Dear Chairperson Hoffmann and Council Members:
In response to needs identified after the October 15, 2006 earthquake, $325,000 was
appropriated in Ordinance 07-33 to purchase backup generators for use by local radio stations
in case of power failure during emergencies.
The Civil Defense Agency has been meeting with radio stations to identify their needs so that
generators of the proper size are purchased, and that all ancillary charges are also considered
such as installation costs, switches, etc. Due to the amount of time necessary to finalize the
stations' requirements and put equipment out to bid, the $325,000 will not be encumbered
before the end of the fiscal year. Therefore, this $325,000 will lapse into fund balance.
Because of the high priority of acquiring these generators, it is requested that you consider
amending Bill 60, Draft 2 by increasing revenue in Fund Balance from Prev Year (3609.10)
by $325,000 and increasing the Civil Defense Agency Miscellaneous Equipment account
(010-241-5241.06-480) by the same amount. This amendment would allow the Civil Defense
Agency to proceed with this priority procurement without interruption.
Your favorable action on this request is greatly appreciated.
Sincerely,
Dixie Kaetsu
Managing Director
