RESOLUTION NO. 229 0'7
A RESOLUTION TRANSFERRING/APPROPRIATING AN APPROPRIATION OUT
AND FROM THE DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S) AND CREDITING SAME TO
A DESIGNATED FUND ACCOUNT(S)
WHEREAS, the Hawaii County Police Department has requested funds to purchase
new radars; and
WHEREAS, the new radars will greatly enhance enforcement efforts, especially with
the new legislation such as the "excessive speeding law", which target drivers traveling 30
mph over the posted speed limit or exceeding 80 mph. The Hawaii County Police
Department issued 8,389 speeding citation in 2006 and it is critical to continue aggressive
enforcement efforts to reduce the high speeding-related fatalities; and
WHEREAS, with the purchase of new radars, the Hawaii County Police Department
will be able to replace the obsolete KR-10 Sp units, many of them were purchased in the
1980's. There are cun•ently 30 serviceable radars that constantly need to be serviced or
repaired, with an average 3-5 radars needing repairs every two weeks; and
WHEREAS, discretionary funds from Council District 4 will be appropriated to the
Hawaii County Police Department to be used towards the purchase of radars for the
department; now, therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE COUNCIL OF THE COUNTY OF HAWAII that
the following amount is hereby transfened/appropriated asset forth below:

BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that the County Clerk shall forward a copy of this
resolution to the Chief of Police and Director of Finance and that the Director of Finance is
hereby authorized to make the necessary transfers in accordance with the terms of this
resolution.
