My name is Takumi ~hlrakawa--- born and raised in Kau for 84 years. i)ur family
business, the Shirakawa Motel, has been in business for 80 years. I am a retired
Associate Professor of University of $awaii College of Agriculture and have served
as an Extension County Agricultural advisor for 30 years iu $awaii County.
My wire and I are against the proposed pnrchase of 150 acres of property at
Pnnalnn. We believe tfiat the priority for Kan shonid be in the Connty facilitating
and encouraging the growth of the district to increase our economic base.
We just had a graduation of our 50 seniors at Iiau High School. The school have
been providing exciiient support to their students. We have had two daughter who
have graduated from Kau $igh. One has become a Dr. in Clinical Psychology and
the other a Registered Nurse. That was 20 years ago when about 90 seniors were
graduated.
I know that we all realize that a community must have a certain number of critical
mass in order to have a adequate health facilities, Doctors, Dentists, and school
enrollment to provide the necessary subject matters.
We are not saying that the purchase of the land is not good for the community but
There are other avenues to protect the nesting areas of the green turtle. Also,
the area to be purchased is prime resort area which will not be available for
development once its designated as a County park area.
We would like to have the council members give this matter a serious thought
