Living in Kona this past 15 years I have been watching tlie''fjevelopment go from attractive to restrictive, from contributing to the Big Island tourism to taking it away. I really appreciate all the improvements and access to the beach front along the Kona, Kohala coast, yet at the same time I watch as the area becomes harder to get to outside of the hours patrolled. While I understand the need for protecting these residences and their occupants, 2 also feel that we cannot allow every bit of beautiful ocean front fall to these developements which continue to make it as difficult as possible to access the remote areas, restructure the natural anachialine ponds into unnatural states and forcing community members into smaller recreational areas and making other surrounding areas difficult to access, if at all. Our beaches and coastlines are beautiful and should be preserved in their natural state, especially at these most important historical and cultural sites. Having commuted from Kona to Waikoloa for six years, 2 am dissappointed in the piles of rock that have been built up around these communities, purposely obstructing the coastline view of the ocean from the highway. While 2 am sure their intent is to protect the views of their community the net result is we lose the coastline view. Soon we will look like Maui with only little bits of coastline visible as we and our tourists tour the island. Thank you for the efforts the council has made over the years to protect our coastlines, making them accessible and usable. With just a little more consideration the Big Island will be protected and as a result become one of the few island destinations where you can experience the coastline in its natural state.
