Subject: SUPPORT Res. 183-07 - re: Kahalu'u Park
Aloha Chair Hoffman and Council Members!
I enthusiastically urge you to support the transfer of $23,000 from
Mrs. Ford's DISCretionary funds to be used as a grant by the Kohala
Center for education of residents and visitors and to restore
Kahalu'u Park.
Kahalu'u Beach Park needs as much love and attention that the County
can possibly give it. It's terribly overburdened with people and
the coral and fish will not last many more years there, undoubtedly,
because of that.
Kohala Center and many volunteers have already painted the main
pavillion I hope you will stop by to see if while you're in Kona.
It's very beautiā¬ul and makes me smile and happy when I see it. I
live within a mile of this lovely park, so frequent it at least
weekly.
someday, my hope is that the County will tend to Kahalu'u as Honolulu
did to Hanauma Bay many years ago. Now, it is closed every Tuesday
and they charge $1. per car to park, and $5. per person to enter.
The entrance fee is waived for children under 13 and for residents of
Hawaii with proof of residency. And one can rent masks, fins,
snorkels and lockers there.
In the meantime, we are very fortunate that Kohala Center is willing
to help out.
Please vote FOR this res o.
Mahal o,
