Subject: save Punaluu please

To Whom it may concern:
I am writing to state my support of Resolution 169-07. '~t~~'~~`
I don't even live on Hawaii, 2 live in California. I made a visit to the big island this
last December. I was shocked to hear that Punaluu is in danger. I feel that this is
symbolic of so much more than just another
development. This is a continued step in the WRONG DIRECTION.
We as humans have a huge impact on our ecosystem, and by now we should be making steps to
undo the harm we have caused (not further it). I feel it should be illegal to develop
areas that will have such harsh affects on ENDANGERED SPECIES.
The reason people come to this area is mostly to see the turtles. Sea turtles are VERY
SENSITIVE creatures and will STOP coming to and laying eggs on beaches that are built up.
There is proof that this is the case. So, by pushing these endangered species out you are
deminishing the reason for tourist money to even stop in Ka'u. No promise of any money
interested developer would EVER pass through my ears without intense questioning and
research.
I have witnessed the intensely disturbing built up coasts on the other islands, and I see
these existing hotels and shopping centers as plenty of space for the tourists to flock
to.
I have seen in just a few days that Punaluu has already too much traffic of uneducated
tourists who are causing damage. I believe this sacred area needs to be forever protected
and that an eco-education system needs to be implemented.
I KNOW as logical thinking humans we can figure out other ways to support the economy than
a cliche development. Nature is WAY more important than economy. 2 have faith that the
proposed develop would be a HUGE MISTAKE.
Nature is stonger than us and we all know that she can exert her power when she wants.
Please do the right thing.
Sincerely,
Susan Harvey
