Dear Chairman Hoffmann:
As President of Hawaii Ho[els & Resorts, I ask for your support in the Kailua Village Business
Improvement District. Our family has been part of this local community since 1984 when we bought the
Kona Hilton, now known as the Royal Kona Resort. Recently we have spent considerable time and
money to renovate our property, as we believe that the Big Island and Kailua Village have tremendous
potential to be one of the greatest and safest destinations in our Island chain. However, we must all
collectively work together to achieve this goal and I believe the BID will do just that.
As a family-owned and operated company, we are pleased to see the formation of the Kailua V illage
Business Improvement District. The mission of the organization is to make Kona's Kailua Village a better
place in which to invest, work, live and play. The Kailua Village Business Improvement District will
allow property and business owners, residents and government to work coopccativcly to improve and
maintain [he physical appearance and aesthetics of public right of ways and parks, increase security and
assist businesses in attracting business and tourism activity.
The success of Business Improvement Districts can be seen by the Waikiki Business hmprovement
District and the Fort Street Mall Business Improvement District both brought back the community and a
restored sense of pride.
Our employees and visitors deserve to feel safe in this environment while being able to appreciate our
cultural gem, Kailua Village. Please support this effort that has taken several years and countless
volunteer hours to bring us to this point.
