Dear chairman hoffmann,
i strongly urge you to support the establishment of the Kailua Village
9u5iness Improvement Dlstrid No. 1. for the future bettafinent of this
wmmurnty.
Over the decades we have witnessed first-hand the deterloratwn, graffiti,
neglect and crime ndden area that is our beloved historical Kailua Village.
Everyone shoulq be able to use the village oay or night without being
threatened or concemeq for their safely. From employees [o shop owner& Ir
residents we all have a vested stake ;n the future of our village.
Today, conaerges along the Kghala Coast routinely tell their guests not to v ~~;i+:
Kailua village due to high crime and unamactiveness.
For tnE past four years following the success of the Waikiki 9usiness
Improvement DistHR and the Fort Street Mall Business Improvement Disu~,~ ii„
the Kailua Village business improvement Diskrict has worked hand-in-hand wil:bi
these two entities to mirtnr their successful examples by helping to
reestablish a quality oP nfe we can au be proud of in Kailua viuage.
Across the nation business Improvement Districts have created win-win
scenanas for small and large communities where individuals who really ca?~E ,
want to get involved and want to make a positive difference!
Through this legal mechanism the private and public sector will work ~n
concert to improve and maintain the phys~ral appearance and aesthetics ta'
public right of ways, increaseo cleanliness and security.
Now Is the time, we hove [he opportunity to do something positive for our
community and to set an example for others to follow. Please support the
