While we may have been outnumbered by testimony in support of this resolution, here are 462 signatures that say otherwise, and we are still collecting more. The specifics of this resolution are unclear to the residents of Ka'u, who will be most directly impacted by the resolution. 1 am against this resolution for the following reasons: Jacobson's bill 169-07, openly ignores the wishes of this community to have a voice and a choice in the future of Ka'u. This bill could mean more restricted use, times and gates? The County can barely maintain the conditions of a 7 acre park at Punalu'u and has failed to keep the current beach front government road open. The financial burden of sustainability and the quality of maintenance of 150 acres of Park must be assured before consideration of this bill. Jacobson's Bill 160-97 is flawed by the designation of a single private organization, selected to manage the proposed 150 acres of County Park. This premature decision will create frustration, animosity and divisions in the community. The intent of this bill is not to acquire a park, but to stop a particular development. It is also the intent to have the County finance the purchase and have Ka'u Preservation implement their preconceived pian for development. Consideration should be given to Seamountain V's offer to donate to the Public (County/Land Trust), approx. 56 acres of critical shoreline, plus provide all or part of the maintenance, build additional bathrooms and shower facilities, pavilions, commit to pond restoration, create and maintain a turtle and endangered species protection program, and build a multi -cultural education center.
