I feel it of the utmost importance to keep Punalu'u for all of us to enjoy forever. It is the only accessable beach in the Ka'u district and often people, from around the island, drive to that beach to enjoy the peaceful, spritual quality it affords. It is, indeed, a living classroom and building a luxury resort will ruin the sacred sites as well as the nesting place for the endangered honu. I am a refuge from over development. I grew up in Long Beach California, a once clean beach with pristine ocean. With the development of the LA Harbor, the beach is now covered in black tar and the breakwater makes surfing impossible. Then I moved to Maui, where Kihei and Wailea developed into the mess of tourist shops and traffic that it is today. Then I found beautiful, rural Ka'u, where I lived for over 28 years. I now live in Hilo, but return to Ka'u often. I urge you to vote for the bill that preserves the Punalu'u area for us and our children forever.
