Dear Counsel Members,
I have been a recent visitor of the beautiful Punalu'u area. Specifically Pahala in the Ka'u district, miles away from a
spiritual highway and black sand beach that Is of question in the Resolution 169-07. I have to write and just tell you what
a blessing the natural state of this area is. I know there are many construction companies that are coming in and telling
the people that these condo's will be a great job opportunity for them but they only see the short term of it all. The
construction jobs will only last one or two years but after that the local people that have made this simple and short term
money they too are going to have to move from their homes because they will not be able to afford the house they
already call home.
There is a lot of area that is built up around Hawaii and I have seen it as well, but the black sand beach is something no
man could make, it is a natural wonder which still amazes the people that visit. Many of the other black sand beaches
have been built on and now some of those condos are rundown and problematic. This natural beach is not rundown, but
a beautiful spiritual place that even a Midwestern boy from the states can see, I can only pray that you see the beach as
this way too and decide to keep Hawaii in it's original state, in its most precious state so others can come and see the
natural beauty you can not see anywhere else in the world. The nature is what attracts people to Hawaii, not man made
forms.
